Aloe Vera – Natures Miracle Plant!

All throughout my life my wise Mother used to bang on about Aloe Vera, and its amazing healing properties, but it is not until the past few years it actually sunk in. We had a giant plant out the backyard at any given time and if myself or my siblings ever got sunburnt, pimples, cuts or grazes she would send us on our way to the sacred Aloe Vera plant. I am so unbeleivabley pro-Aloe Vera and I wish I listened to Mum earlier, alas better late than never right.
During my week away last week I met a lovely healer in Bangalow who recommended my friends Dad who was with us – start taking Aloe Vera both topically and orally for relief of Gout in his toe. She led us on a wild adventure to her sweet little cottage where she grows a bunch of the rare 1 of the 4 types of Aloe Vera you can actually eat. She sent us with a large knife and good intentions to thank the plant for its healing properties and sweetly allowed us to receive a few pieces, as well as offering us an entire plant to grow at home – which I am so excited about!
Aloe Vera is so unbelievably good for you it is no understatement when I call it ‘natures miracle plant’. The inner gel (the succulents) is where its at! This is because all succulents have self-repairing abilities. They don’t simply store water in a giant internal “water tank” that leaks out if torn or punctured: Their internal gel repairs any cut or tear by automatically shrinking the wound and creating a new water-tight seal. This gel matrix is comprised of hundreds of different phytochemicals that not only store water and repair injury; they also grant notable medicinal effects to humans who consume them. There is nothing on this planet that offers the amazing variety of healing benefits granted by Aloe Vera.
In a single plant, Aloe Vera offers potent, natural medicine that:
• Halts the growth of cancer tumors.
• Lowers high cholesterol.
• Repairs “sludge blood” and reverses “sticky blood”.
• Boosts the oxygenation of your blood.
• Eases inflammation and soothes arthritis pain.
• Protects the body from oxidative stress.
• Prevents kidney stones and protects the body from oxalates in coffee and tea.
• Alkalizes the body, helping to balance overly acidic dietary habits.
• Cures ulcers, IBS, Crohn’s disease and other digestive disorders.
• Reduces high blood pressure natural, by treating the cause, not just the symptoms.
• Nourishes the body with minerals, vitamins, enzymes and glyconutrients.
• Accelerates healing from physical burns and radiation burns.
• Replaces dozens of first aid products, makes bandages and antibacterial sprays obsolete.
• Halts colon cancer, heals the intestines and lubricates the digestive tract.
• Ends constipation.
• Stabilizes blood sugar and reduces triglycerides in diabetics.
• Prevents and treats candida infections.
• Protects the kidneys from disease.
• Functions as nature’s own “sports drink” for electrolyte balance, making common sports drinks obsolete.
• Boosts cardiovascular performance and physical endurance.
• Speeds recovery from injury or physical exertion.
• Hydrates the skin, accelerates skin repair
I have been using Aloe Vera gel as a face moisturizer for quite some time now but have recently upped the ante and am now adding the gel into my morning green smoothies to work from the inside out. The taste is not amazing, so it is best disguised in smoothies or with other fruits like watermelon or mango.
How to eat Aloe Vera?
You can purchase a great aloe vera plant from any good quality garden centre. Once you have planted it in your garden and given it some serious loving – it is ready to heal you. I like to feed my Aloe Vera plant Spirulina – it seriously boosts its growth! Combined with  lots of water and partial sunlight. Once it is in full bloom you can simply go out to your plant and thank it for its medicinal qualities and gently slice off a piece. To eat you slice off a 5cm piece, and slice gently down the middle and remove the top skin with the knife. Scoop out the gel and place it in your green smoothie, see recipe idea here. I have also been enjoying the gel with some Watermelon! Sooo hydrating and delicious and the watermelon masks the aloe vera taste completely.
How to store Aloe Vera?
After an Aloe leaf has been sliced off – it is best stored in the fridge in a container.
