Lets talk armpits! Aloe Vera Ever-Shield Deodorant Stick

So, our armpits may not be the most attractive areas on a body but they are an important one at that.
A lot of us don't really think about what antiperspirant we use. Usually we just go for the one that smells the nicest, I'm definitely guilty of this!

A few years back I learnt the importance of choosing your deodorant well. At the time I was using Sure Antiperspirant which I bought from my usual drug store, I had a mini for my handbag and a spray for use after showering.

I began to notice a raised bump in my right armpit and thought nothing of it, just that it might have been an ingrown hair which would sort itself out in no time.
After ignoring it for months, it had got bigger and I could feel it without having to look for it. It was becoming uncomfortable, I mentioned it to my mum in passing and she said I needed to book an appointment with my GP ASAP. I didn't know this but the tissue under your armpit is actually classed as your breast too, and as we know any lump in your breast would set alarm bells ringing and should be shortly followed by a phone call to your doctor. My GP explained what was happening. Which leads me to the reason behind writing this post.

The Antiperspirant I was using was causing a lump to form in my underarm as a reaction to the toxins in it. I was very relieved that it wasn't anything more than that but it did open my eyes to toxins and what I was using on my skin. My doctor advised that I shouldn’t be using Antiperspirants that contain Aluminium.

So I did some research and it turns out there is no conclusive research linking the use of underarm antiperspirants or deodorants and the subsequent development of breast cancer. Which is good news!

But I did manage to confirm what I was told about Aluminium-based antiperspirants....
The important thing to remember is that antiperspirants and deodorants are different things all together; antiperspirants can contain aluminium salts where as deodorants do not, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that deodorants are any better for you.

Antiperspirants containing aluminium, work to completely stop perspiration from occurring.
Deodorants allow perspiration but work to only kill the bacteria that causes odour when we perspire.

It does make more sense to use deodorant as it is a much more natural process just to let our bodies sweat, but let’s face it none of us want to give the person next to us a shock with any 'unpleasant' odours.
Most commercial brands of deodorants and Antiperspirants contain a number of harsh chemicals as we know, let's keep the focus on Aluminium. Aluminium is a toxin and can be potentially toxic to our health.
The Aluminium in these products can be absorbed into the skin and also enter via cuts and nicks. The word toxin would put any one off, here's where I decided to make a change, I knew I had to remove it from my routine completely as I had seen the evidence of what the Aluminium was doing to my skin, and that was on the outside, when I began to think about what would happen on the inside I decided to totally cut it out.

I came across a great Aluminium free deodorant which I am really excited to share with you.
The deodorant itself is based on the Aloe Vera plant (or Aloe Barbadensis Miller) which is a plant concealing a pure inner gel which has been used for centuries to improve health and enhance beauty. Aloe is a desert plant with amazing capabilities to absorb and restore moisture.

Did you know that Cleopatra championed the use of Aloe Vera for beautification, it was the biggest secret to her beauty..she would bathe in it and we all know she had enough time to!

The product description reads ‘Effective, long lasting and non-irritating underarm protection that can be used directly after shaving. Clean scented, free from aluminium salts, lasts for months and will not stain clothes’ Honestly, that has to the most truthful product description I have read to date!

It costs £5.92  which is maybe a pound or more than you would usually pay for a large can but I have had mine for nearly two months now and it’s only moved down a smidge and that’s all considering I use it more than once a day after the gym too, so it’s going to last me absolutely ages. One thing I can’t stand about spray on deodorants is that they run out so quickly not to mention that they instantly put the people around you into a coughing fit from the gas!

You might not be keen on stick or roll on deodorants, and before this, I was the same. I didn’t like the feeling they gave you-I can only describe it as a ‘wet’ feeling which isn’t nice when you’ve got your nice clean clothes on..I know some of you know exactly what I mean. The feeling wasn’t sticky at all and it dried quickly. It’s a smooth texture and not creamy or liquid. This literally a solid stick of Aloe Vera with added anti-perspirant capabilities.

The fragrance is pleasant and fresh but not over powering, as much as I like my fragrance to smell good I can’t stand an over powering fragrance which takes over the lovely fragrance of the expensive perfume I just put on.

Summary:
Effectiveness: Great, kept me dry without white marks.
Fragrance: Light and fresh
Packaging: Simple, twist bottom design and seems to be of good quality so it won’t get stuck if I twist it up too much.
Price: £5.92 is great value, from my usage so far I estimate it to last me around 3 more months so a total of 5 months per stick. Consider that a normal spray deodorant costs £4 and lasts you maybe two months at a push.
Usability: Can be used for men and women
As always I only recommend products I believe in and have really tested, this is most definitely worth it. We concentrate a lot on what we look like but need to remember that it’s what we put into our body that counts.

This product is not easy to get hold of (not found in shops, supermarkets), if you would like to know more or would like to know where you can buy this leave me a comment or send me an email, madhazik@gmail.com

HEALTH START ALOE VERA GEL

As we approach the feastive season it is a good time to celebrate our No.1 product and the foundation of Forever Living Products – Aloe Vera Gel, a product that accounts for 50% of the company’s turnover.
As we all know it is not sold on its taste but for its many benefits. It is an excellent source of micronutrients and trace elements with an anti-inflammatory and pain-killing action and an ability to balance the immune system through its long chain sugar Acemannan, giving the consumers an increased sense of wellbeing. This ancient plant usually grows in areas rich in minerals which it absorbs and presents to us in a bioavailable form. After drinking the gel for a few weeks most people notice a tangible improvement to skin , hair and nails, as these structures are provided with more of their basic building blocks.
The gel should be refrigerated after opening and taken on an empty stomach first thing in the morning so it can enter the small bowel relatively unaffected by stomach acid and enzymes. Here, this important polysaccharide can be absorbed whole by certain specialized cells delivering it to the blood stream just as it was in the yellow bottle and just as it was in the plant.
Drinking the gel alters the action of the gut as it speeds up gut transit time whilst smoothing out irregular contractions, a very property if you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome. Aloe Vera will improve the absorption of food, especially protein, but I also believe it may enhance the absorption of certain drugs. People often ask me how much they should take and I think this is down to individual experimentation, usually varying between 100-150 mls per day. For children and the elderly the requirement is less, remembering that a child of 12 takes an adult portion. As a rule of thumb, a six year-old will take half and a three year old a quarter and so on. I do not advice it to be given to infants under one year.
“Why should Customers buy our gel as it is one of the more expensive varieties on the market? The answer is simple. It’s about quality and the fact that it works!”
There are several cheaper products available and these tend to be of the whole leaf variety rather than using the filleting process that we adopt. I am convinced that our method of production is superior for the following reasons set out in the table opposite.
There’s no space to mention everything about this quite exceptional succulent but my flyers ‘Aloe the Facts’ and ‘Top 10 Reasons to Drink Aloe Vera Gel’ will provide further details. Incidentally, I’m told that it’s an excellent cure for a hangover! So cheers!

Aloe Healing Properties

The Aloe Vera Healing Properties
The Aloe Vera healing properties are the same contents that maintain good health. As the human body ages and works under stressful conditions, there is a tendency to assimilate less of the nutrients from the food that is taken into the body.

The body secretes the electrolytes or even essential minerals from the body via perspiration or urine.

Even under heavy mental work loads stress can cause great loss in forms of electrolytes. To avoid physical fatigue, which will lead to abnormal cell death, electrolytes need to be replaced immediately.

As the life vitality through the aging process decreases, this causes most adults not to assimilate food properly. This again causes a mineral imbalance, throwing the body out of a normal functioning balance.

It is a well known fact that minerals are essential to good health. They act as the spark plugs in the body to keep the physiology aspect functioning.

The well balance mineral content in Aloe Vera healing will come to the body’s delicate metabolism, as this metabolism process is solely maintained through daily diets.

Minerals in their micro units, synergistic blended in the ionic state, can be utilized almost immediately upon ingestion. The emotional, physical and physiological health all depend upon proper mineral balance.

The healing properties of Aloe Vera depend on the following:

Aloe Vera is one of the most versatile plants on earth, and the ultimate mineral balance is accomplished by the perfect blend that nature placed in the plants.

When Dr. Terry Pulse proved that Aloe Vera healing juice contains the important substance known as "Acemannan", he gave the world the scientific evident.

Aloe Vera has a long chain of polysaccharides that will feed the cells by detoxifying and building a strong immune system. That in return greatly improves the defense of the cells.

The improved defense system protects the cells from virus and bacteria, which could other-wise penetrate the membrane and cause damage.

Dr. Daniels a German doctor researched the effect that Aloe Vera healing juice has on the leukocytes. With this he proved that the cell walls are improved in their resistant factor so that the most aggressive viruses can not penetrate.

Therefore Aloe Vera is one of the basic things that can be used for the improvement therapy of the immune system.

Aloe Vera a food supplement
Aloe Vera is known to release energy, oxygen, and detoxifies the affected membranes. Through this type of energy release, even cases of leukemia have received improvement through the stimulation of the bone marrow.

As the body receives complex nutrients, this releases energy and oxygen and replacing the electrolytes that the body lost through secreting. By this process numerous of different problems can be reversed and healed.

This is why Aloe Vera is known as a prophylaxis medicine in cases of grippe, bronchitis, asthma, throat infection, and sinuous infection. Even in problems like ulcerous colitis, stomach ulcers and some liver diseases have been helped through the Aloe Vera usage.

When the various avenues of nutrients are covered, the body is given a chance to express power, vigor, resistance, and normal levels of stimulation's. This in return overcomes problems that have been placed on the list of difficult situations.

For example
• arteriosclerosis,
• circulation disorder,
• cholesterol,
• triglycerides and high glucose levels.

There are records that these problems have been eliminated and the body returned to normal function. This is possible, as the Aloe Vera healing properties covers a number of different avenues in the line of nutrients.

Even in cases of abnormality, Aloe Vera healing properties have been used to maintain good health. It is even possible to maintain a normal level of resistance in this manner, before the problem has a chance to arise with the presence of this powerful maintainer. This is the very important reason, why Aloe Vera is such a wonderful food supplement.

DANGERS OF USING ANTI- PERSPIRANT
Deodorant and anti-perspirants are used to prevent embarrassing social situations. Naturally, smelling nice is part of good personal hygiene.
Most deodorants and anti-perspirants contain aluminium, parabens and propylene glycol. There are growing links between the chemicals found in such products and chronic diseases such as Alzheimer's and breast cancer. Aluminium is widely used and you may not be aware of the level of contact with aluminium. It is in anti-perspirants and deodorants. It is in soft drink cans (made of aluminium). It can also be found in medicine such as "buffered aspirins" and is used for many cooking utensils.

In deodorants and anti-perspirants it comes in the form of aluminium chloride or aluminium sulphate, it helps to stop you from sweating. However, sweating is an extremely important function of the body and it serves the purpose of maintaining the body temperature as well as eliminating toxins.

So the idea of stopping perspiration is in opposition to the body's natural health maintaining system. It makes no sense to "stop" perspiration since perspiration is a vital function.

Dr Chris Exley from Keele University, a researcher into the toxicity of aluminium, and awarded a Royal Society University Research Fellowship in the field "The Bioinorganic Chemistry of aluminium and Silicon" said: “Aluminium is a metalloestrogen, it is genotoxic, is bound by DNA and has been shown to be carcinogenic. The confirmed presence of aluminium in breast tissue biopsies highlights its potential as a possible factor in the aetiology of breast cancer”

The World health Organization has linked exposure to aluminum to Alzheimer's disease, with higher frequencies of deodorant use corresponding to higher risks of developing Alzheimer's. Unusually high levels of aluminium accumulation has been found in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease. Further, when aluminium is injected into the brains of laboratory animals, the animals develop a neurological disease similar to Alzheimer's.

Then we have parabens which are used as preservatives. The problem with them is that they are similar to oestrogens in their activity and may disrupt the proper functioning or hormones in the body. There are studies showing that parabens have been found in the tumours from breast cancer sufferers. They are mostly found in the area nearest to the underarm in the outer parts of the breast.

Another addition to these cosmetics is mineral oil which is used to block pores, thereby subduing perspiration and preventing the detoxification process.

Then we have propylene glycol which is an agent that prevents substances from drying out. Propylene glycol was (and still is) used as an anti-freeze and it has found its way into deodorant. So what is propylene glycol? It is a neurotoxin that has been known to cause contact dermatitis, kidney and liver damage.

The Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for propylene glycol by the National Institute for Occupational health and Safety warns workers to avoid skin contact with the toxic chemical. However, millions of people use it under their arms every single day.

From the MSDS:  May cause eye irritation, skin irritation. Chronic exposure can cause gastro-intestinal disturbances, nausea, headache, vomiting, and central nervous depression.

In addition when using spray-based deodorants and anti-perspirants, you inevitably inhale the toxic elements in these products.

So if you shouldn't prevent perspiration, how can you control the smell. Well it comes down largely to what you eat. Is that a surprise? It shouldn't be. Without being overly polite here, if your stool smells differently depending on what type of foods you eat, it should make sense that the smell of your sweat, to some degree or other, will be influenced likewise by what you eat. Lots of caffeine, for example, leads to a pungent type of body odour.

If you adhere to the optimum diet, which consists of mainly vegetables and fruit (80%) and limit the meat and unhealthy (oxidized, pro-inflammatory, polyunsaturated) fat intake, and also reduce the amount of refined carbohydrate intake, your body odour will not smell as bad.

This mean's that you will not have to take such drastic measures as sticking anti-freeze under your armpits, blocking your pores and preventing normal and essential bodily functions such as perspiration. This just makes your body retain the toxins that it is trying to excrete for your own protection and well-being.

As everybody is different, for some people even a change in diet may not be enough and they may find that they need "extra protection" against those embarrassing social situations.  If that is you, then you should try and search for aluminium-freeanti-freeze freeparaben-free cosmetics. There are many natural deodorants available now, so you have to experiment and find out which one works well for you.

ALOE VERA

Aloe Barbadensis Miller. It’s a mouthful, but it’s a name worth knowing.

There are around 300 species of aloe plants. They are all succulents found in arid regions throughout the world. They’re each beneficial in their own ways, but there is only one species that has been recognized for millenia for its magically soothing abilities—Aloe Barbadensis Miller.

Do you know why Aloe Vera has this name?
The name originates from the naturalist Miller that found Aloe Vera on the small island of Barbados in the Antilles. He thought, it to be a native plant of the island, therefore the scientific name “Aloe Vera Barbadensis Miller”.

The Aloe plant originated from Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Today it is widely cultivated in California, Texas, Mexico, India, and coastal Venezuela. It is also a popular house plant.

You probably know that the Aloe plant is very sensitive to cold weather ...

... That’s because it consists of 95% water. The Aloe Vera leaves are full of juicy tissues which are full of vitality and freshness. And that’s why its habitat is in warm and dry regions.

The Aloe Vera family is a large one and belongs to a larger class of plants, known as the “succulent”.

They are called succulent because they possess the ability to close their stomata completely to avoid loss of water.

In the inside of the leaf, which is protected by a tough cuticle, the gel type of pulp is present. The gel carries the valuable nutrients in a meaty like substance.

The Aloe Vera plant has a special chemical make-up which closes wounds almost immediately. The wounds, that the leaves of the Aloe Vera plant receive, close and heal with almost miraculous rapidity and the plant just keeps on growing.

Miracle or Blessing?
Aloe Vera. There certainly isn’t a more popular natural extract. From cosmetics to toilet paper and from washing up liquid to drinks, the ‘miracle product’

Aloe Vera seems to make an appearance wherever you look. We can provide you with an absolute guarantee that pure Aloe Vera is the most important ingredient in all our products, ensuring you can optimally
benefit from the positive effects Aloe Vera has on your health and well being.

We would like to introduce you to the beneficial world of Aloe Vera and provide you with some solid information on this natural product’s origin, effects and applications.

So what exactly is Aloe Vera?
Aloe Vera is sometimes also referred to as the ‘miracle plant’, ‘natural healer’ and ‘burns plant’. There are more than 300 different types of Aloe, but the Aloe Vera Barbadensis, known as Aloe Vera, is the most powerful of them all. Aloe Vera contains many substances which have a positive effect on our health.

The plant, which looks very much like a cactus, is a member of the lily family. This family consists of approximately 3.700 types of flowering plants, including the garlic, the onion and the asparagus. The plant reaches maturity after four years, after which the contents of its leaves, a mixture of gel and sap, can be
harvested and bottled for the end product.

History
Aloe Vera was already known to the civilizations of the Old Greeks, the Romans, the Babylonians, the Indians and the Chinese. The plant has been used for thousands of years as a result of its beneficial effects. One legend suggests that Alexander the Great was convinced to conquer the island of Socotra in the Indian Ocean in order to collect great quantities of Aloe Vera for his wounded soldiers.

Dr Bill Coats, a pharmacist from Dallas in the American State of Texas, took it upon himself to tell the world about the many benefits Aloe Vera represents. Four years later he had developed a stabilization process which protected the gel from the harmful effects of oxidation. Coats was dedicated to unravelling the plant’s biological composition and managed to achieve what no one had yet been able to achieve: extract the gel from the plant and stabilize it in a natural way which preserves Aloe Vera’s powerful and healing properties. Dr Coats’ stabilization process was patented and is now the property of Forever Living Products International (Aloe Vera of America).
